A couple who moved to Cornwall from Tunbridge Wells have hit out at locals after their new burger van was given an unfortunate nickname. Seth and Lisa recently opened their gourmet burger van in West Cornwall, naming the business "Seth-a-Lis" by combining their first names. The couple thought the name was particularly clever until a local man standing in the queue pointed out that it sounded remarkably similar to syphilis. "Is that where the cheese comes from?" he asked, sending several customers into fits of laughter. "We were absolutely mortified," said Lisa. "We spent weeks coming up with that name. We thought it was quirky, original and reflected our personalities." Seth believes the incident highlights the poor standard of education in the area. "It just shows how thick some of the locals are. Syphilis isn't even spelt like that. It's completely different. If anything, they've just embarrassed themselves." Unfortunately, the nickname has since spread around the local town with several customers now referring to the business as the "Syphilis Burger Van". "We moved down here for a quieter life and to become part of the local community," said Lisa. "But frankly, we're beginning to understand why property is so much cheaper." Despite the controversy, the couple insist they won't be changing the name. "We've spent £1,400 on the signwriting," said Seth. "And we're certainly not going to let a man who turned up with a rolled cigarette hanging from his mouth, wearing a ghastly coat covered in wolves dictate how we run our business."
