The old site had categories which were then divided into subcategories and a few times I've found myself hunting for something like Irony or Depression but then gone with the closest thing I could find instead. I'm happy to keep doing this but it does make it a bit easier to find what you are looking for. Does it screw up all the old joke categories if something like this was implemented? Also I don't want to force a change if extant users are happy with having less options to choose from.

Brilliant, thank you. That helped a lot. The problem was the checker concentrated aggressively on the first line only so if the first line was heavily re-worded and the rest was almost identical it would escape detection. That was me just being over-conscious of causing extreme server-load from the AI backend but I've managed to use the GPU now to give a load of extra rendering power and now the CPU's have even lower load that before! I've changed the way it detects and now it's flagged up 291 duplicates! I would have deleted a load but I wanted to let Mods see the new Duplicates section in action first. Thanks for helping out 🤝

I'm surprised the dupe checker did not pick it up, unless someone accidentally marked it as not a duplicate.

It shouldn't matter about the 'cutoff point'. The whole database is embedded so in theory every single joke gets compared against every single joke and it should flag duplicates. The only thing, because they can be worded differently; it involves a massive degree of 'analogue' so I have to tune it and set thresholds. A little too low and it lets '9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape' and 'nine out of ten people enjoy gang rape' slip past and a little too high and it will start flagging things with '9 out of 10' in and the like. If you notice duplicates, please feel free to post links or identifying info and I'll use it to tweak the algorithm. Thanks a lot 🖖

I found a joke that was a duplicate but could not mark it as such so I quarantined it as 'copied'. I think both versions pre-dated the duplicate checker maybe.

Ever thought about a "View comments on your jokes" feature, some comments are as (or if not better) than the posted joke as they take on new interactions.

Ok, mods now have a 🛂 button that lists all the votes. I don't think we should make it a public feature for obvious reasons mods; please use your discretion as well; only use it to check for abuse. I think you were just lucky that a lot of users gave you an upvote on that one. That's the main reason I've introduced the Super-Vote feature; it gives absolute belters more of a chance to rise above the 'fairly good' ones. Obviously, it was only a good idea to add a modest effect so it doesn't open it up to 🐝-style self-upvoting from several accounts quite so much and the new email sign-up verification should also help combat mass sign-ups.

Since the downvoting is easily monitored, what about upvoting manipulation? One of my jokes was upvoted very quickly on Friday, this one: Joke 379 This was just a dumb one I remembered and there were many much funnier jokes at the time so it does not seem like legit voting. Of course if many of you did think it was that funny then great but it seems anomalous to me, especially since it is now my highest scoring joke.

It's a voting analysis. If you have a score on a joke of say '6', it lets you know if say 106 people upvoted it and 100 downvoted it at the same time. Same with the new Super-Votes. I've hidden it behind the 🗳️ button now to hopefully save confusing anyone 🥹

I couldn't recreate that on Mac/iPhone. You use Firefox right? Firefox likely assumed it was a login field because it has username lookup functionality. I have added a couple of extra measures against FF autocomplete but it's definitely the Browser's fault. Try a hard refresh; something like Shift+F5, Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+F5 and that should clear the site cache and load the new code changes. Let me know if this does or doesn't work if you don't mind. Can you change the "salute to" box so that is empty by default? Currently we have to delete our own name every time which some people struggle to figure out.

If you just open the 🔍👀 page and press 'Search' straight away it lists all the jokes from most recently added. I'll add a button to do it as well tomorrow. We're still in the same place with this issue. Another Johnny-come-lately whose only contribution is criticism and a 12/1 downvote ratio. It would be nice if the site itself was checking this from happening.

Further suggestions for augmentation of what is already a very well-rounded site: (1) On both my laptop and mobile 'phone, if I'm looking at jokes over the past week / month / forever, it only displays the top highest scoring 50 and there is no option to 'go to next page'. If I haven't been able to check in for a few days and look at past week, I'm going to be missing posts. (Or, is it just me?) (2) If you read a joke by, and click on, an individual BFH contributor, it will show you all their jokes but not their memes.

I have no issue with a good joke being posted if I have heard it before. It's almost like a good refresher sometimes. And I've said this loads of times on Sicki comments. Not everyone has heard every gag. It's always new to someone. The site is doing mega and I am enjoying reading loads of decent gags. We also all recognise a new pearler. I do draw the line at Princess Diana jokes

Credit where credit's due. The old site was fairly consistent at deleting dupes and users often pointed out where jokes were stolen from. Just my opinion but having a "nod to" and/or source field would enable contributors to be honest about where the joke came from and allow users to discover more comedy sources.

Link to source? sickipedia has a field you can write in the source of your joke in case you wanted to admit it wasn't originally yours although it never appeared on the actual joke itself, kind of like an honesty box. Should we have something like this and/or an optional "Nod to" box? Like it only appears under the joke if the user actually wants to fill it out.

You're doing great Supernerd. It's that well monitored not much gets past you. Is the sites success costing you money now...as well as time?

I would apply a reputation based system so that users can only downvote after earning say 100 points. Make upvoating available after say 20 ponts. Should keep the no content downvoters to a minimum.

Good idea sir 😋 What do you reckon on here. Max 1 downvote credit per 5 upvotes received for users jokes so they have to have earned 5 upvotes to give one downvote? I'm not too sure about the making upvotes for downvote credits. Do you think it would encourage wasp-like users upvoting a load of random jokes so they get downvote credits to attack certain people with? I think the 'earn your downvotes' is best for encouraging higher standard content; do you agree? It's a brilliant site and that's all down to the members. Suggestion for augmentation:- Without wishing to appear a total arse-kisser, I think that all the indications are that this site is going from strength-to-strength and is a decent place to be, a bit like the original Sicki. Thank you Supergalley! I have noticed an anomalous member. Hasn't yet contributed at all in terms of material. Does up-vote, but the down-votes nearly equal the number of up-votes. Per-capita, this member is the most significant down-voter. Seems to me like some of the 'bad' Sicki mischief? Should the site incorporate an algorithm which would dictate that you have to have 'earned' a minimum number of upvotes through posts or have made a minimum number of upvotes before you can make a single downvote. I don't think that anyone would wish to see the high-handed / unequal or nonsensical moderation that 'bad' Sicki had descended into. Even fair-minded, restrained moderation can aggrieve those on the receiving end. Would an algorithm help?? DG

There isn't any paging; every joke should be on the same page; only filtered by the 24h/this week/this month/all time. I know the search page is limited to 200.

All brand new users come with that set now. Also mods can go to any users joke 'Comments' and put them into post-approval mode or remove it.

I might bring that back one day as an option for moderators to apply to users who are on a post ban 😂 💠I did add the ability for moderators to add or remove Joke Approval status. If a mod goes into 'Comments' on any users' joke in the main feed you should see "Questionable User" if that user doesn't currently need approval and "Remove From Moderation" if they are currently on post approval and you want to remove that status. Root - I can't find anything wrong with posting new content. I've tried a joke, meme and a clip; all from Safari and again from Google Chrome and it works flawlessly. It might choke if you try to upload a video >1min or >50mb I think because that was there to stop the server getting bombed. Give me some more details about what browser/OS you were using and what you were having a problem posting exactly and I'll see if there's anything I can do. 🖖🏻 There's a limit of something like 10 per hour and 15 per day so if you've hit one of those it might reject any more.

I think relatively new users need their jokes approved now until we are sure it's not just wasp trying to get back in, I just approved 2 jokes by you root. Also when I click quote on your message above it actually quoted the thing you quoted about the floating devil.

Why does 'Moderator' flash in red all the time? I can't click on it or anything.

I've made the 'Last 24h','This Week','This Month','All Time' combo-box sticky during the current session. The logic on this combo-box is to check if there is less than 10 jokes 'today' and if so to change to 'This Week'. It also does that down to 'This Month' and 'All Time' so you should always have more than ten jokes/memes/clips to look at. I set it so that closing the browser and starting an new session goes back to the original auto-set state, otherwise it now remembers your choice and you can tell it's done this because it gets a green glow.

OK, I have completely redesigned the meme and clip upload features. How it works now: 1. When submitted, the image or video clip is uploaded to a new TUS-D server which allows resume and supports very slow transfers that would otherwise make the main website server go 'BAD GATEWAY' 2. After completion and CRC check the TUS-D server notifies the processor server it has an image or clip ready. This server then compresses larger images/videos to a reasonable filesize 3. The processor server then sends the processed image/clip to the main website server to be added under the correct username This should in theory be extremely robust but please do let me know if anything doesn't work correctly.

I'm not sure file size is the issue, it spends about 20 seconds trying to upload it then says "Internal Server Error" so maybe it times out? Also check the last gif I uploaded it, got weirdly corrupted.

No problem. I've bumped it up to 50mb max. It may take a little while and look like it's hung after pressing Submit. I've worked in some .gif magic now so they should be working 🖖🏻

Thanks for adding the clips section, I don't seem to be able to upload anything bigger than 2MB though. My internet connection is pretty slow if that impacts it.

Just added a new 'Clips' section. Upload any clip up to 60 seconds long and it gets compressed into MP4 by ffmpeg for best universal compatibility. Will have to see if the server can cope with video. Should be fine as long as there's not loads of users all watching at the same time. Enjoy 😉

Thankyou! It's just literally written in barebones code with Python/Flask as the lightweight engine so there's extremely low bloat. I've also wired it so images are cropped to a sensible size and quality as I noticed there was images in the region of megabytes being uploaded at the beginning. Now all images are 24kb-445kb but generally 200kb ish so they load really quick. You can already list all jokes in a category by having (Last 24h, This Week, This Month, All Time) selected and click on the category name button. I'm just working on the Search page right now. Apologies for the delay, I will add a glow to the Forum button where there's unread threads as you don't notice them at the moment. Standby...

Would be useful . . . Word search, category search. I'd just like to comment on how slick your site is on uploads, graphics file instantaneous as opposed to Sicki site's prevarication / fails.

I have rewritten the cookie policy to hopefully persist user logins past the session so we don't have to sign in again every time we come back to the browser. Do let me know if you experience any issues and I'll do my best to sort them out.

It should be a lightning fast site as it's written in Python/Flask to just do exactly what it does - so none of the laggy Wordpress bloating.

Still ironing out a lot of the code. I have just added a feature that makes your upvotes and downvotes glow when you're signed in so you can see at a glance what you have voted on. It's still buggy and I'm busy for a couple of days now so I better not try to fix it as the site will most likely start going 'INTERNAL SERVER ERROR' and not working so I'll finish that at a quiet time.

I had one user on Sickipedia complain the snow was really annoying. It automatically starts in December and ends on the 12th day of Christmas but if it gets on your moobs I've now added an option on the titlebar to turn it off - with a cookie to save the setting.
